LINK TO INTERACTIVE INSTRUCTIONS
The IT Department wishes to clarify the password change requirement. If you have changed your password on or after August 1, 2024, there is no need to change your password again. If you last changed your password before August, 1, 2024, please follow the instructions below.
All users will be required to change their Life University password by Monday, September 9. We urge you to change your password as soon as possible to prevent having to do this at a more urgent time when you must access a system to do your work. Please consider your schedule when changing your password as you’ll need to re-login to all your devices and the Life U WiFi network. We would suggest doing this during business hours and not right before you have an exam to avoid any inconvenience.
The purpose of these steps is to update your password and to make sure your Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is set up.
Changing your password is now easier than ever. Please follow these instructions:
1. Log in to your account at office.com
- If you get prompted that your account needs more information, please scroll down and follow the steps further below to set up Multifactor Authentication before continuing to change your password.**
- If you log in successfully, you can proceed to the next steps for password change.
2. Once logged in, click on your account icon in the upper right corner of the web page and select "View account."
3. On the account page, click "Security Info" from the left-hand menu.
4. Verify your information and make any changes required.
- Please be sure your mobile number and alternative email (if used) are up to date.
5. On the Password line, click "Change" to create a new password.
- Tips for Creating Your Own Memorable Passphrase
- Incorporate Personal Interests: Use words related to your hobbies or interests, such as "Music", "Travel" or "Cooking".
- Add Numbers and Symbols: Include numbers or special characters to increase security without sacrificing memorability.
- Keep It Long: Aim for at least 12-16 characters to enhance security.
- Make It Unique: Avoid common phrases or combinations that might be easily guessed, such as where you grew up or a family member’s name.
- Please be sure to use an upper and lowercase letter and at least one number or special character.
- Examples: Musician_M@st3r T0p_baker.#1 and Great.wor1d*_rac3r
- Things to avoid:
- Please do NOT reuse any password you use elsewhere (your bank, personal email, online shopping, other systems, etc.). If any of those sites are compromised, you run the risk of your Life U account being compromised as well.
- Please do NOT share your passwords with anyone.
- Please do NOT write your password down or store it in an easily accessible location.
**Please follow the simple steps below to complete the MFA setup:
1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator App:
- For Android: Open the Google Play Store, search for "Microsoft Authenticator" and install the app.
- For iOS: Open the Apple App Store, search for "Microsoft Authenticator" and install the app.
2. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App:
- Launch the app on your mobile device.
- Tap the + button and select "Add work or school account."
3. Connect Your University Account (It is highly recommended to do these steps on a computer):
- On your computer, go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup and sign in with your university account.
- Add sign-in method.
- Select "Authenticator app" from the drop-down menu.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to generate a QR code.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
4. Complete the Setup:
- Approve the sign-in request on your phone if prompted.
- Verify that your account is correctly added to the app.
- Add a secondary phone number as a backup if it is not in there already.
As a bonus to your new password and sign-in settings, you will no longer be required to change your password every 90 days (this will be extended to a year). You will also have more sign-in options when using the recommended Microsoft Authenticator app for MFA. More information on that will be disclosed down the road.
REMINDER: Never click a link in an email claiming to be from Life University and asking you to verify your account. This also goes for phone calls. Be wary of anyone asking you to provide personal information about yourself or others. If in doubt, ask for a number to call them back and then check with IT or Campus Safety.
